Pornography Can Affect Society

What is it like to be a porn star? What role does porn play our society? I do not think of myself as an expert in the sense that a person with a doctorate in sexuality would be. But I have my opinions and I am about to share them with you right now.

First think about the rush that viewing porn can cause in the viewer who is interested in watching sex on the screen. Purportedly, the New England Journal of Medicine published a study that said that men staring at a women’s breasts for just 10 minutes a day can add four to five years to his life.

Whenever I hear of some such “study,” my first reaction is – hogwash. Studies are often a way of affirming the consequent. You first make a theory and then go all out and confirm it.

But mentions of such studies help us by revealing attitudes related to sexuality. So, coming back to the issue of porn in our daily life and in our society, well it is about physical pleasure and the pleasure of experiencing the taboo.

There will be those who will think of porn as sin. Others will ignore it and still others will think of it as a healthy way of stimulating ones sexuality. Regardless of which side you stand on, you cannot ignore the deep rooted presence of porn in our daily lives. Even in non-western countries where sexual expression is relatively repressed, porn is quite freely available.

On the issue of taboo, I guess we can mask any taboo behind science. So, let me unleash another “study” on you. Purportedly, Dr. Karyn Weatherby, whoever she is, said that ogling at busty beauties is equivalent to a 30-minute aerobics workout for men. She said that such ogling reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack. If not numb, that is at least dumb. Not the study or its conclusions, but the fact that it probably encourages people to get less inhibited about social misdemeanor.

But that raises another possible use for porn. Maybe porn helps release pent up frustrations in an individual without necessitating the participation of another. Sure there is couple porn and other means of social porn. But porn also allows one to get in touch with ones sexuality without having to seek it from ones social surrounding.

I am not advocating that as a good thing, but I accept that porn is here to stay.

How Does Porn Addiction Affect The Addict?

Some say pornography is good for everyone, but they are very wrong. Many porn addicts don’t even have a personal life no more, and it’s hard for them to socialize.

Pornography can create monsters. If you don’t believe me, just watch the news and I am sure you will be convinced. Rapes happen everyday, kids are sexual molested and families are destroyed, and the number one to blame is pornography.
Pornography affects people in many ways, and I’ll be talking about 3 domains where pornography can affect us:

1. Personal life.
Maybe in the beginning you might say watching porn is not bad, and you won’t get addicted to it, but like drugs, pornography creates addiction. Once you are hooked on porn it’s really hard to escape. There will be a hunger inside of you that won’t stop and day by day you will want more porn, and you will spend more time watching porn.
Maybe in the beginning you will watch porn for 30 minutes per days, but with time you will increase this time, to maybe hours and won’t be satisfied with “simple” porn. You might move to more explicit and more “kinky ” sexual material. Your life will be ruled by this addiction.

2. Family life.
Once you are hooked on porn you won’t have any time to spend with your family and friends. If you are married, porn addiction can lead to argues and in many cases to divorce. Having a sexual partner won’t satisfy your hunger for pornography.

3. Work.
If you are employed, pornography can cause you a lot of trouble, especially if you watch it at work. Studies have shown that more than 20% of all men and 13% of all women usually access porn sites at work. If you get caught watching pornography at work you might get fired, and this will be bad for your next job.
